I choose to laugh at myself thank you very much

I was talking with a friend last night (a fellow blogger by trade) and we were discussing people's voices (not the audible part) and their reasons for blogging. Some people approach this new form of mass media because they have a plan, a mission.

I am not one of those people.

Kpinion does not exist to take over the world (at least that is what you have been led to believe). Nor does it exist to force some sort of revolution. Nope. People, my reasoning is fairly pure. I blog because I like it. I write because it is something that I enjoy. The things I post are not meant to move you in any one direction, to change your entire view of life, or even to entertain you, because I don't write for you. I write whatever weighs on my heart or swims in my mind. I write for me. I just choose to put it out there for the entire world to read along with.

Ok and now that the public service announcement has ceased, I must chronicle a most hilarious moment for me yesterday.

As I sat at lunch with some fellow workers, we began to talk about the phrase "just so you know". I, for one, use this phrase quite frequently. It might be my "signature phrase". I often laugh that this phrase has a bit of sarcastic wit with it on every usage. "Just so you know, I already did that." "Just so you know, Bob was talking about you yesterday." The phrase has bite to it though covered in the covering of a informative and kind phrase. And yes I did discuss this with my co-workers (I'm a bit of a nut you see).

In the middle of this conversation, our vice principal mentioned that some people use the phrase "For you FYI". It took me a second but the hilarity of that phrase stuck me so much that I just started giggling. My mind raced with thoughts that whoever uses that is so funny and yet a little sad because they are saying "for your for your information".

In the midst of my laughter, my VP looked at me with a grin and said, "Katie you say that." Oh the uproarious laughter that occurred on my part at that moment. Here I was laughing and making fun of the poor soul who misspoke and IT WAS ME. Yes, this only made it even more hilarious on my part. And then my VP commented, "but it makes you ghetto fabulous, you know you can rap it" and he proceeded to rap "for your for your information" for my listening pleasure.

My response to him was of course "I am going to have to blog about this." He smiled and asked what his moniker was on my blog. Without missing a beat I said "My Vice Principal who is a year younger than me." He smiled and said that he liked the focus placed on his youth in comparison to my grand old age. (Yes, my secondary vice principal is a year younger than me, smarter than me (I can admit that), and makes me laugh on a daily basis. As the two youngins of our administration team we act like brother and sister for the most part).

So this is what I choose to share with you dear internet. Misspeaking, humor, and a little slice of the pie that is called humble that I eat on a daily basis with much laughter and smiles. Stay tuned, because you never know what I will post next. Will it be a deep thought provoking delve into the inner workings of my mind, with it be an emotional roller coaster ride of free form thought, will it be another story of my mishaps (they occur in great frequency so there is always material in that category). I don't know because there is no game plan, no ulterior motive. What you see is what you get, although figuring out what you are seeing may take a while.

Katie, I love the way you blog, and it's obvious you have no ulterior motive. It's always interesting to see what you're going to talk about next. Will it make my laugh? cry? think? That's wonderful. You have a captive audience.

It's great you have someone close to your age at work that you can have fun with. Where I work, the next youngest person is about 20 years older than me. Yeah, no fun at all! That's why I sit here and blog all day! =)

Ha Ha, I can SO hear you saying "just so you know". But I don't think I've heard you say the "FYI" one.

Your secret is safe with me.

I believe it went a little something like, "I blog to let out what's in my heart - what's swirling around in my mind and impacting my life at that very moment; THAT'S the stuff I feel I need to share with fellow bloggers.

I do it for me: you all just get the overflow of my heart and emotions generally in accordance with what God is teaching me.

Just so you KNOW Katie: your story was HI-larious! For your FYI.

I blog because there is this little timer in an underground bomb shelter that starts counting down when I dont... I actually blog to save the world from some sort of magnetic hell and black swirling cloud.

PERFECT steve. That made me laugh.

I mean the pressure to blog so that the entire world will not become magnetized or worse, sucked in by a swirling cloud of smoke. THE HORROR.

In fact I think someone should nominate you for the Nobel Peace Prize.

;o) Cute!

Me, I write for an audience. I truly do. I mean, if I was just writing for myself, I'd buy a diary.

Isn't it funny how we mess up our sayings sometimes? My little pet peeve is the misuse of the word 'myriad.' I know, I know, get a life.

Myriad: a substitute for the word 'many', as in "She bought myriad shoes in myriad stores."

Most people misuse it. I hate hearing a dumb news anchor say it in such a way that it sounds like: "She bought a many of shoes in a many of stores."

I start talking to the TV and frothing at the mouth...

Ben: What..? Who? MEEE?! I think you may have me confused with someone else... someone who saw the perfect opportunity and siezed it... but that's DEFINITELY not ME! I'm innocent!

I blog for myself, because I like to write, I blog for my readers because deep, deep, deep, deep, deep (you get the point) down inside I'm an entertainer at heart.

Actually, I'm addicted to the blasted thing, as I've admitted many times.

I love to read friends blogs - it's like Christmas every day, anxiously waiting to see what you all leave for me. Way cool.

I would like to comment on a comment that Ben made somewhere between comment 734 and 987 (yes, I'm being sarcastic, but I just read 40-something comments. I get, like, 2 on a good day).

Anyway, BEN, I'm totally with you on that whole no-on-else-on-the-island-is-worried-about-the-hitting-of-the-button-every-90-minutes thing. I mean, really...! No one understands what is happening on that stupid show. No one. Somewhere there is a guy sitting around watching the entire country try to make sense of a show that no one understands. He is laughing, and saying things like, "Now, let's put a garden gnome on the beach next to the baby and sit back and see what America THINKS is going on." Stupid, stupid show.

Yeah...I'm totally addicted.

So much to respond to:
Saur - Thanks to you (and my obsession with correctly using words - which is somewhat ironic after this post) I have thought in my head the many ways to use myriad and how I would be using it incorrectly. So thank you for feeding the obsession of my brain to focus on things that really are of no worth in my day to day life. :)

Ha ha, I love that i can just sit back and watch you all sefl destruct into pointing fingers on who is leading the crazy train when in fact i am the grand master pulling the puppet strings (and no I don't have a world domination complex but it sure is fun to giggle with delight as you all start calling each other names (in love of course))

ANONYMOUS - Sorry, I guess I did not point it out but the post Because I Said So was the outcoming to the "this and that". The idea that even amongst all my questions and my impatience and waiting I do so because God is I AM was pretty much the whittled down subject. I will probably re-visit the "this" again and flesh it out some more but it's still a bit jumbled in my head. I hope that answers your request (and thanks for the persistance). If you have more questions comment away and I will try and answer them.

Tony - says the man who posted MUTE as a entry. But if my voice is the anti-voice then who is the "voice" and why and I the antithesis to them?

Deals - If I could share the comments I would. EVERYONE go read Deals, she is HILARIOUS (really I don't use that word just willy nilly). Read and comment and comment and comment and comment. And I too am addicted to Lost. That is a whole other topic. Hmmm, maybe I will have to have Lost dissection on Thursdays after the show. I do wonder why the Others don't seem to fret about the countdown, but then maybe they don't know about it, or they know that Desmond was in charge of keeping it from happening. And really what will happen if the timer is not reset? And if a yard gnome showed up on the beach next to the crib I would FREAK A BEAK. Yard gnomes are scary in themselves but on that creepy island they are borderline demonic.

Yeah, my sister (a.k.a. The Lazy Gnome) loves gnomes (I think it is because she is but a wee-little person herself). Anyway, she's got like 4 or 5 gnomes randomly placed all around her apartment, and she gives them all "jobs" (apparently, you have to give them something to do or they will get bored and play tricks on you).

Very weird.

Not sure I'd call the gnomes "borderline demonic", but I admit that they are creepy. You are watching TV and it just feels like all the gnomes are watching you (a little unnerving, I think). Then again, maybe the gnomes have all been given the "job" to watch any strangers that enter the apartment. Who knows...?!
