Yea just like that

I went to dinner with my mom and one of my sisters tonight. We were discussing movies and my mom asked my sister if she owned The Secret of Nimh. Now this is one of my FAVORITE childhood movies and I stumbled upon it one afternoon and sat entranced drawn into the story of Mrs. Beasley. I also realized that I knew the words to the ending credits song after all these years.

So back to dinner. When my mom mentioned The Secret of Nimh I said that I loved that movie.
This was the following conversation:

Older Twin: That movie makes me cry.

Me: It has a happy ending but Nicodemus, the old wise rat, does die.

OT: Just like in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Me: Silence and then laughter: Yea just like that

We're normal right?

Teenage mutant ninja turtles, heroes in a half shell, turtle power. Yes I do remember that cartoon theme song also. I have mad skills.

I stand corrected, I was wrong (note that people since one of my bad habits is always having to be right) the theme song says turtle power not ninja power. Here are all the lyrics

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half-shellTurtle power!

They're the world's most fearsome fighting team (We're really hip!)
They're heroes in a half-shell and they're green (Hey - get a grip!)
When the evil Shredder attacks
These Turtle boys don't cut him no slack!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Splinter taught them to be ninja teens (He's a radical rat!)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines (That's a fact, Jack!)
Raphael is cool but crude (Gimme a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Party!)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Heroes in a half shellTurtle power!

And yes I did just sing that in my head.

I thought it was Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, heroes in a half shell, turtle power. I guess I had it wrong this whole time.

Ben how are you too old for TMNT? Wow you are old, way old. Man did they even have color TV when you were a kid? Or better yet a TV at all? Hee Hee.

Are TMNT still hip with the younging? All I really remember of them was the theme song (because my sister's watched it, I was busy watching Saved by the Bell) and I played the arcade game at the skating rink on Friday nights. Did I mention that I thought I was so cool in 6th grade because I hung out at the skating rink EVERY friday night.

P.S. Welcome back from Mother Russia Steve.

Jake has a TMNT action figure. And likes to play the video game. So they are popular again.

We had a color TV, but we also had a 13 black and white tv as well. It had a dial on it even.

Skating Rink. HA! I am laughing at you... not with you... at you.
I am sure you did the limbo thing in the middle of the ring when they were taking a break and you held hands with some texas boy during "couple's skate"... and then when you got really good, you would skate backwards as he was skating forwards as you nervously spoke about the TMNT video game he just played. It's almost like I was there. lol.

Although he probably gave you a ring from the glass counter at the door. ;)

Ben oh Benny boy you speak the truth. I can skate backwards very well and I would also do the spin where you skate toward your partner grasp hand over hand and pump as you spun so fast that you would fly off if you ever let go. I did limbo (though not very good,my legs were too long). i did couple skate and also progressive skate (like a couple skate but you choose your partner and have to change when the whislte blows - a possibly very traumatic situation for a sixth grader). I never got a ring from the gift shop but I had mounds of slap bracelets and some bruises to prove it. I did have a skating rink boyfriend (he lasted one week, two couple skates, and then he was off to wooo another girl, ahhh puppy love, or more puppy friendship, whatever). I would spend so much time deciding what I was going to wear and usually settled on my sixth grade Woodrow Wilson t-shirt to mark that I was cool and older than all the fifth and fourth grades.

I laugh too at the hilarity of that time and yet I cherish if for its memories and just plain fun.

I still love to roller skate and keep trying to talk everyone I know into going. I like dressing up in funny costumes and going skating. The real skates with four wheels(two on either side) preferably white with pink wheels and pink laces with glitter strung into the laces,

Here's the true test... what was your skating boyfriend's name?

Woodrow Wilson T-shirt!?!

I just re-read it... I get it now... your grade school or middle school's name was Woodrow Wilson... it wasn't actually a t-shirt with a big black and white portrait of Woodrow Wilson on it. lol. (That would have be funny... in an endearing kind of way.)

Ben - I just shared your last comment with my principal and our textbook coordinator and we laughed our heads off. It was Woodrow Wilson Elementary and it was a green polo with a screened printed mustang and the words Woodrow Wilson Sixth Grade on it. It was cool. While I would now like a t-shirt with the dead president of Woodrow Wilson screen printed on it becaust that is cool I was not as enlightened in 6th grade and most likely would not have pulled that look off.

Oh.My.Goodness. All this talk of slap bracelets, TMNT, and skating rinks is making me have a HUGE flashback. I never got to do a couple's skate, but I remember them. I was killer on the limbo though - the short, skinny kid that was in ballet. I will go skating anytime with you K-T. I'm sad that they closed Spinning Wheels, I never go to go there. I laughed SO hard at the Woodrow Wilson T-shirt thing. Hilarious Ben! I'm at home now and I'm less than 2 miles from you. Craziness! I'm going to have to stop by and actually meet you sometime. I mentioned to Resa the other day that I blog with you and she said you were so nice. Complements to you!

Wait JCol are you two miles from Ben or two miles from me? I'm confused becaust if it is Ben then I also know a Resa but if it is me then we obviously know the same Resa. Fun.

KT, I am 2 miles from you. Less than that actually, I think it ended up being 1.25. I could jog there if it wasn't 120 degrees outside. The way I phrased it in my previous post was very confusing, but no, I'm not in Minnesota. We are talking about the same Resa. I keep forgetting to tell "Maile's mom" that I blog with you. Her and her husband are our mentors and very good friends, which is how I know Resa.
